Good Times in the Classroom!

Teaching first graders can be challenging, but there is never a dull moment. For example: Every Friday, my kids are entitled to a Dance Party (its a whopping 5 minutes-they bring in cd's (anything from high school musical to Carrie Underwood) and boy, do they dance! At first, they were nervous and hesitant about breaking out there moves, but once Ellen (my assistant) and I started dancing, now there is no holding back! (This is now their highlight each week!) Well, this week we jammed to Vanessa Hudgen's newest CD. Some kids did the conga (which they called the "cha-cha"), the boys bounced off tables and chairs like they were skateboarding with Tony Hawk and this week the girls received private lessons from me on how to do the "Sprinkler" and the "Shopping Cart". I can not tell you how hard I laughed watching them dance. It made my day and I know all of theirs. I even had a Kindergarten teacher come up to me and ask, "I heard your class has dance parties on Friday?" I informed her that it is usually given to them as a reward and its tons of fun for all. She stated, "Well I was wondering what was going on, a couple of my students brought in cd's today and informed me of what takes place in Mrs. Pfanmiller's classroom and that we needed to start doing them too!" So last Friday, a few more classes showed off their dancing skills-the dance fever is spreading!
